Simulation report settings Defaults

The Defaults Manager: Simulation report settings panel contains controls used to define a default set of standard EnergyPlus reports to be displayed in Simulation results.

Summary reports The following summary reports are standard predefined EnergyPlus annual summary output reports, and are viewable in OpenBuildings Energy Simulator simulation results by selecting them individually or with the All Summary and All Summary and Monthly options.
  • Annual Building Utility Performance Summary (ABUPS) — Produces a report that is an overall summary of the energy consumption of the project building.
  • Input Verification and Results Summary (IVRS) — Produces a report that summarizes general building information, window to wall and roof light to roof ratios, and a zones summary.
  • Demand End Use Components Summary — Produces a report that summarizes the energy demands and times of peak demand for all defined energy sources by each of the room and building components that exist in the project.
  • Source Energy End Use Components Summary — Produces a report that summarizes source energy (for all energy sources) consumed by end use components (heating, cooling, lighting, pumps, equipment, etc) categorized by end usage and normalized by conditioned and total floor area.
  • Climatic Data Summary — Produces a report that summarizes climate data on each design day including maximum dry-bulb temperature, daily temperature range, humidity value and type, and wind speed and direction.
  • Equipment summary — Produces a report that summarizes the major HVAC equipment present in the project. Sub tables report on central plant equipment, cooling coils, DX cooling coils, heating coils, fans, pumps and service water heating equipment. Not every type of HVAC equipment is represented in this report.
  • Envelope Summary — Produces a report that summarizes all opaque and non-opaque surfaces (fenestrations), including construction, U-factors and SHGC.
  • Surface Shadowing Summary — Produces a report that summarizes all surfaces (walls, roofs, etc) and sub-surfaces (windows and doors) that may cast shadows on or be shadowed by other surfaces and sub-surfaces.
  • Shading Summary — Produces a report that summarizes window sunlit fractions at specific times representing a range of sun angles, and a listing of windows which have a window shading control defined.
  • Lighting Summary — Produces a report that summarizes zone information, lighting power, schedules, controls, etc for interior (room) lighting components, exterior (building) lighting components and room daylighting components defined in the project.
  • HVAC Sizing Summary — Produces a report that summarizes zone cooling and zone heating information such as design loads, design air flow, design day, peak load and temperature, and humidity ratios as well as the calculated air flow rates for heating and cooling.
  • System Summary — Produces a report that summarizes performance of the systems defined for the project including information about economizers (if controllers exist for shutoffs, min/max outside air flows, return/outside air temperature & enthalpy limiters), demand controlled ventilation, amount of hours when the building zones are not comfortable (based on ASHRAE 55–2004 standard), and setpoints that are not met.
  • Component Sizing Summary — Produces a report that summarizes sizing parameters used for the different kinds of HVAC system components defined for the project (that are sized).
  • Outdoor Air Summary — Produces a report that summarizes average and minimum outside air exchange rates based on ventilation (simple and mechanical) and infiltration.
  • Object Count Summary — Produces a report that summarizes the numbers of different OpenBuildings Energy Simulator objects exiting in the project.
  • Component Cost Economics Summary — Produces a report that summarizes the economics of the energy consuming systems exiting in the project.
  • Adaptive Comfort Summary — Produces a report that summarizes the occupied hours that do not meet adaptive comfort acceptability limits for each relevant occupancy component for which adaptive comfort calculations are requested.
  • Sensible Heat Gain Summary — Produces a report that summarizes simulation results for each zone and the overall building for some of the major heat gain components.
Monthly reports Monthly reports are standard predefined EnergyPlus monthly summary output reports, and are viewable in OpenBuildings Energy Simulator simulation results by selecting them individually or with the All Monthly and All Summary and Monthly options.

Monthly reports broadly summarize building performance. The information they contain varies depending upon the EnergyPlus properties being reported in each predefined monthly report. The table below lists each monthly report, the predefined EnergyPlus properties it reports and their value types. Descriptions of the value types are at the bottom of this section, below the table.

Value Types
  • SumOrAverage — Sum adds the values for each timestep and reports the sum of the value monthly. Average lists the average value for the month.
  • Maximum — Reports the maximum value and the time it occurred. When Maximum is used with Sum, the value is divided by the length of the timestep in seconds.
  • Minimum — Reports the minimum value and the time it occurred. When Minimum is used with Sum, the value is divided by the length of the timestep in seconds.
  • HoursNonZero — Adds the elapsed time during the month that the associated property value is not equal to zero. This is an appropriate way to determine the number of hours that a fan operates.
  • HoursZero — Adds the elapsed time during the month that the associated property value is equal to zero. This is an appropriate way to determine the number of hours that a fan does not operate.
  • HoursPositive — Adds the elapsed time during the month that the associated property value has a positive value. Hours with a zero value are not included.
  • HoursNonPositive — Adds the elapsed time during the month that the associated property value has non-positive value. Hours with a negative value and hours with a zero value are all included.
  • HoursNegative — Adds the elapsed time during the month that the associated property value has a negative value. Hours with a zero value are not included.
  • HoursNonNegative — Adds up the elapsed time during the month that the associated property value has a non-negative value. Hours with a positive value and hours with a zero value are all included.
  • ValueWhenMaximumOrMinimum — Evaluates the previous EnergyPlus property in the report that sets a maximum or minimum and displays the value of the current variable at that same timestep. The order of the EnergyPlus properties is important when using ValueWhenMaximumOrMinimum. For instance, ValueWhenMaximumOrMinimum can be used when an outdoor temperature is reported for the time of the maximum cooling load.
  • SumOrAverageDuringHoursShown — Provides the sum or average of the EnergyPlus property during the hours the previous variable displayed with any of the value types starting with “Hours”. For Sum, it adds the values for each timestep and reports the sum monthly during the hours reported on the previous variable. For Average, the value shown will be the average for the month during the hours reported on the previous EnergyPlus property. The order of the EnergyPlus properties is important when using SumOrAverageDuringHoursShown.
  • MaximumDuringHoursShown — Reports the maximum value and the time the maximum value occurred but only during the hours reported with the previous value types starting with “Hours”. When used with Sum, the value is divided by the length of the timestep in seconds. For instance, the maximum for a variable in Joules is reported in Watts. The order of the EnergyPlus properties is important when using MaximumDuringHoursShown.
